Salvation: The Gift of God to Humanity

Updated: Apr 16, 2023

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Jn 3:16

This article answers three questions: why receive Jesus Christ, what happens when you receive Him and how to receive Him.

WHY RECEIVE JESUS CHRIST?

1. The Wages of Sin

The bible says that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Rom 3:23. We have all inherited a sinful nature (predisposition to sin) from Adam, the first human being created by God (Rom 5:12 & Ps 51:5). This sinful nature causes us to sin (break God’s commands or go against His will) and live in the flesh by practicing “sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies.Gal 5:19-21. As a result of these sinful actions:

  • We are separated from God. Is 59:2 says “your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.”

  • Both physical & spiritual death entered into the world (Rom 5:12; Rom 6:23 & Gen 3:19)

2. The Work of the Cross

It is because of death that comes through sin that God sent his only Son, Jesus Christ, to save the world. He paid the price for our sins. He bore our iniquities by dying on the cross of Calvary (Rom 5:8) and defeated death by resurrecting on the third day through the power of the Holy Spirit (2 Tim 1:10). Is 53:5 saysHe was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU RECEIVE JESUS CHRIST?

Imagine that you commit a felony or get so much credit card debt and someone you don’t know who is innocent and very prosperous serves your prison sentence or pays that debt for you so you can live a free life or have a good credit score. On top of that, the person gives you full access to his possessions (bank account, everything you can imagine…) and makes you his heir. This is what God has done for you. He paid off your sins and iniquities before you were even born so that you may have life and have it abundantly (Jn 10:10).

HOW TO RECEIVE JESUS CHRIST?

The good news is that salvation is a free gift. It’s a free gift obtained not through personal effort but by grace through faith (Eph2:8). You don’t have to work for it. You don’t have to pay for it. You don’t have to make any special sacrifice for it. You don’t have to join any special club for it. It is free!!!!!!! You just have to open your heart and:

  • Recognize that you are a sinner & repent of your sins,

  • Believe in the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus, and

  • Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord (Rom 10:9)

You might be telling yourself that you’ve sinned so much that God can’t forgive you or be reluctant to receive Jesus because of the current storms in your life. But, I’m here to tell you that God sees you and still loves you. There’s no amount of sin that the Lord can’t forgive.

You might be thinking that there are many ways to get reconciled with God. But, as someone who once thought so, I can tell you with assurance that Jesus is the way, truth and life (Jn 14:6) &There’s only one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ (1 Tim 2:5).

Do not doubt God’s love and do not reject His call today. Do not harden your heart to His love today. He sees your pain and it’s His earnest desire to free you from sin and the burden that comes with it. He wants to heal you, to restore you and lead you in green pastures, and to give you a joyful, prosperous, peaceful and fulfilling life.

If you’re ready to receive the gift of salvation, please repeat this short prayer out loud:

Thank you Father God for loving me before the foundation of the world. Thank you for sending your only Son, Jesus Christ, to pay for my sins and iniquities. I recognize that I am a sinner; I repent from my sins and I ask you to forgive me. I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for my iniquities and was resurrected on the third day by the power of the Holy Spirit so that I may have life and have it abundantly. Come dwell in my heart today through the Holy Spirit to guide me and lead me in the path of life. Before heaven and earth, I chose you today to be my God, my King and my Redeemer forever in the name of Jesus.
